Protruding or prominent ears that are out of proportion with the rest of your face can negatively affect your self-confidence. If you are unhappy with the shape or position of your ears then you may benefit from ear reshaping surgery.
Ear correction surgery known as an otoplasty or pinnaplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to reduce the prominence of your ears by reconstructing and reshaping the cartilage. The process of pinning back your ears will cause them to sit closer towards your head and create a natural contour.
Approximately 2% of the UK population consider their ears as too prominent. Some patients we treat have had abnormalities with their ears since birth, whereas others have experienced injury which has misshapen them. Whatever your reason for considering ear surgery, an otoplasty can have profound benefits for your appearance and self-confidence.
The cosmetic ear pinning procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours to perform, depending on your individual case and can be performed under both a local and general anaesthetic.
Your Plastic Surgeon will make incisions at the back of your ear/s. Your cartilage is then re-modelled and trimmed before small stitches are used to hold the ears in their new, less prominent position. As small stitches are used and their placement is relatively hidden, scarring is typically minimal. You will leave hospital with bandages covering this area in order to keep your newly positioned ears firmly in place and to prevent infection.
Your consultation is the perfect opportunity to meet with Mr Adrian Richards and his nursing team, find out everything about your otoplasty procedure including risks, recovery and expected results and ask any questions.

Side effects from ear pinning surgery are normally minimal. You will experience some swelling and bruising and occasionally you can experience slight loss of hearing. This is normal and should only last until your swelling subsides. Bandages will need to be kept on for 5-7 days post-surgery and you can expect a full recovery 6 weeks after surgery, where you can begin to fully enjoy your new appearance.
A comprehensive aftercare package will be provided to you by your Plastic Surgeon.
